The year 2021 has seen its fair share of anniversaries within the watchmaking industry, and it seems 2022 will follow suit. Just a few days into January 2022, Edox has released a new anniversary limited edition, capturing the spirit of the original Delfin from 60 years ago. Here’s the Edox Delfin Mecano 60th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Edox has an extensive background in the field of waterproof watches, as evidenced by various dive watches like the Hydro-Sub. However, the Delfin (Spanish for dolphin) is another name from the company’s archive linked with waterproofness. The Delfin was a dive watch with a 200m water-resistance made in 1962.
The Edox Delfin Mecano 60th Anniversary Limited Edition comes in a 43mm wide x 12.5mm thick black and grey PVD-coated steel case. This makes it a reasonably large watch on the wrist, but swivelled lugs connecting the case to the strap make it wear ok on the wrist. The 12-sided bezel is a signature element of the Delfin collection, first seen on Edox watches in 1973. The screw-down crown and screwed-in caseback ensure a water-resistance of 300m, a 100m jump over the original.
The Edox Delfin Mecano 60th Anniversary L.E. dial is finished in black, with a rotor-like design cut out of it. This reveals the mechanical heart underneath, but more on that in a bit. The applied hour indices are golden, as are the central skeletonised hour and minute hands. The slender gold-coloured seconds hand and a white minute track complete the dial.
The movement Edox uses is called calibre 85, a skeletonised Sellita SW 200. This automatic movement reveals the inner workings through a skeletonised mainplate and bridges. Through the cut-outs in the dial, you can see the openworked barrel, for instance. It runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and provides 42 hours of power reserve when fully wound. A sapphire crystal reveals the underside of the movement with the Edox branded rotor on top.
The Edox Delfin Mecano 60th Anniversary Limited Edition is worn on a black rubber strap with a black PVD-coated pin buckle. It is presented as a limited edition of 600 pieces.
